Abstract
Texas voters approved the “Parental Rights Amendment” to the state constitution on November 4, 2025. The amendment, which appeared as Proposition 15 on the ballot, makes Texas the first state to adopt such a proposal. A similar amendment was rejected by Colorado voters in 1996. Some observers cast the amendment as a moral issue. This paper examines the political context of the statewide vote on the legislatively referred measure. Using county-level data, we analyze party identification, ideology, demographic variables, and religious affiliation to understand the amendment’s appeal to voters better. The findings suggest that voter support for the amendment can be best described as partisan.
