U.S. Standardized Testing in the 21st Century: Lessons Learned

Abstract

In the 21st century, many federal policies were enacted to reform and improve the American public education system, focusing on standardized testing. However, standardized testing policy has both positive and negative effects on students in the K-12 public education system. These effects are shown with both qualitative data and quantitative data in existing peer reviewed and grey literature. This research paper will analyze key findings from literature regarding previous and existing acts, such as No Child Left Behind and Every Student Succeeds Act. The key findings are used to critically analyze proposed legislation, such as HB-1471. It is imperative that mistakes from previous federal policy are not repeated.
