Abstract

The Department of Political Science at the University of California–Riverside put together a series of career workshops for undergraduates during AY 22-23 and AY 23-34. These workshops were intended to convey to political science majors the career choices ahead of them, put students in touch with existing UCR resources, and, more generally, to render concrete and recognizable the steps students should take in order to reach their career goals. We encountered three abiding challenges at the center of our project. These were the challenges of resolving persistent technical issues, attracting panelists, and drawing in students. The purpose of this article is to convey the steps that we took to develop these career workshops and to meet challenges so that other departments similarly positioned might benefit from our experience.
