Abstract

Generative AI is changing education. Responses to this change in technology in the classroom include banning AI use, ignoring it, or integrating it. Current discussions emphasize faculty concerns of GAI, including hallucinations and plagiarism. Student surveys conducted during the Fall 2024 semester illustrate that students have many of the same concerns as faculty. Thus, given the exponential pace of AI development and potential use, it is imperative that we expose our students to Generative AI. The goal is to make students aware of how they can use generative AI tools to augment their work and increase their critical thinking while guarding against risks and downsides. We will showcase an assignment from our courses where we incorporated a prompt produced by ChatGPT to create a critical thinking assignment. Our findings support the notion that AI can be harnessed in support of student learning
