Reimagining Information Literacy Skills in the Age of AI

Teaching information literacy skills to our political science students has become ever more challenging and vital in a world where mis- and disinformation are rampant, where AI-generated content proliferates, and where social trust has eroded. Incorporating more critical thinking and research skills exercises into your existing lessons and course content can feel daunting, but is possible with thoughtful planning. This workshop by a political science librarian will explore practical approaches and active learning strategies for scaffolding core information literacy skills while considering when and how to incorporate emerging AI tools into the process. After participating in this session, attendees should be able to recognize the six frames in the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, to apply one of the frames to their own assignment of choice and develop an approach for integrating AI into classroom discussions of critical thinking and research.
